"Jon
Farmer, owner of PDX Hot Lix, tunes into the news and sees
opportunities. “Local celebrities on the front page today could be a
product tomorrow,” Farmer said. His hot sauce products, such as Tonya
Hot Sauce (not for the weak-kneed) and Trade Whitsitt Road Kill, are
just a few items designed to take a tongue-in-cheek poke at local
celebrities. The hot sauces, at $5 a pop, are selling like, well,
hotcakes at such places as Made in Oregon stores and Strohecker’s, the
upscale West Hills grocery. Farmer’s initial inventory sold out
quickly and he can’t seem to keep up with demand. “We started
production with 60 cases and we’re now in our third production
cycle,” Farmer said. The next products he plans to introduce: Vera
Katzsup (It will cover everything, including I-405), and Erik Sten’s
H2Oh No! Bottled Water, after the city commissioner who heads the
Portland Water Bureau."
"Portland's most notorious knee-whacker is consulting with lawyers again, but this time claiming that she is the one who has taken the low blow. At the center of this spicy controversy is a 5-ounce bottle of "Tonya Hot Sauce," made by PDX Hot Lix! LLC." Read More by Taylor Clark Willamette Week
"PORTLAND -- If you liked the Tonya Harding hot sauce, you might want to try out the company's latest product -- Blazer Jam. Their new product, Ripped City Jail Blazer Jam, comes in three flavors -- Marion Felon Berry, Raspberry Reefer and Strawberry Stash. The labels all have various sayings, such as "Red-eyed and Rolling." The jam appears to be quite popular with jars flying off store shelves. Strohecker's bought a case and it sold out over the weekend. They will have more by Saturday. If you can't wait until Saturday, stop by Gifts Galore for You and More on Northeast Glisan and pick up a jar. They say they have some in stock".
"Farmer says he developed the recipe and has it made to order. Portland cartoonist Joe Spooner did the label."
"Jon
Farmer, the entrepreneur who’s made a splash lately with his Jail
Blazer Jam and Tonya Hot Sauce, is in real life a customer service agent
at PDX. He doesn’t want to say which airline because he thinks it
might get him in trouble, although I don’t see how." Portland
Tribune Article "New from the people who brought you Tonya Hot Sauce: Ripped City Jail Blazer Jam. Jon Farmer, the guy who went toe to toe with Tonya herself ("Tonya in Saucy Spat!," WW, Oct. 30, 2002), is back poking fun at the skeletons in Portland's closet with a jam he claims is "so good, it ought to be a controlled substance." Of course, it's best if "stored in a crawl space," and in true charitable form, Farmer promises that a cut of the sales will go to the Blazer bail fund. To contribute, call PDX Hot Lix! at (503) 816-1145. What's next? Mark Kroeker margarita mix?" By Willamette Week Editorial Staff
"Fresh from pummelling Paula Jones in a celebrity boxing match the headline-grabbing, hubcap-wielding former ice-skater Tonya Harding threatens to sue an Oregon company which began marketing a barbecue sauce named after her. According to Harding's lawyer, the label of Tonya Hot Sauce - "Not for the weak-kneed. Guaranteed to assault your taste buds" - portrays Tonya Harding as cigarette smoking, bubblegum-chewing trailer trash, and that is not who she is." Harry Pearson from The Guardian
